A few weeks ago we had a little gathering at our house to celebrate our second little miracle! Being that we are away from all of our Family and most friends it can be a challenge. But thankfully we have a little village here made up of a few friends who actually used to live in LA and are also now living in Dallas. So we gathered on the day the I turned 22 weeks as a way to to only celebrate finding out the gender, but also to celebrate the milestone of making it to 22 weeks and NOT in pre-term labor like with Jaxson.
Once a year our former hospital has a celebration for all of the little ones who have graduated from the NICU! Invitations are sent out to the families and the anticipation of seeing all of our former NICU nurses and Doctors begins. This was our 2nd reunion and it was so nice to see some of the people who really contributed to the health and wellness of our son. Some of the NICU staff has become such an intricate part of our lives. We saw many of the same faces who diligently cared for Jaxson and remembered him so well. To see his former nurse Rachel who cared for him in the first 36 hours of his life was such a special moment. She was in awe of how big Jaxson is and how well he is doing. Rachel's dedication to her patients is something that both my husband and I really appreciated and the fact that she remembered our family meant a lot to me.
We planned the celebration in 6 weeks and our friends and family were happy to come out and celebrate Jaxson's birth although he was still in the NICU. I thought it would be a little weird not actually being pregnant at my shower but I didn't feel sadness. I knew I needed to go through with the event and pull out all the stops because Jaxson was my first and possibly my last. I would've regretted not being able to experience a shower of my own.
