You see for me getting pregnant after having my micropreemie son was not something I had ever really considered. When people would ask "so when is the next one coming?" They would get THE LOOK...oh you know the look that says "are you for real?" After all that we've been through? Nah I'm good. Through my first pregnancy I learned so much about myself, my body and the entire experience wasn't what I imagined. It was such a hard journey- but through my tumultuous pregnancy and premature birth, I discovered my purpose, my faith grew AND I witnessed a real life miracle. I truly believe that everything I went through was God's will and plan.
So this is beyond surreal. On Saturday at the crack of dawn, my husband and I hopped in an UBER for the first time and jet setted our way to VEGAS!!!!!!! What in the world! This was our first time leaving Jaxson with our parents to go out of State. Big deal 😬 we knew he was in good hands of course and it was only for 1 day! That's right. A whole 14 hours of adult fun in Vegas!
I felt a little sad leaving him but I kissed my precious baby boy and set off for a day of adventure with my husband.
As wives it's important to do fun things with your husband- keep things fresh and new! When my husband mentioned (a couple days prior) that we should take this trip, I initially thought ok cool but how can we bring Jaxson also because surely we can't travel without him. Hmmm. Hey, I'm a first time mom so of course that was a question LOL. (Don't laugh)
On Monday 4/11, we celebrated our 1 year anniversary. And oh what a year it's been!!! These past 365 days have taught me so much about life and even the importance of spending intentional time together as a couple. As new parents sometimes we find ourselves so inundated with raising the baby, cleaning the house, preparing meals, appointments, etc. and let's be honest LIFE IS BUSY! So, with that said it takes even much more effort to keep that spark alive! I love my husband and I appreciate the fact that he initiated this trip. I love that it was spontaneous yet still carefully thought out. We had a plan as to how we would spend the day and make the most of our time. The weather tried to "rain on our parade" literally! It was crazy, but it didn't stop us from having fun! At least we were able to dance in the rain together :)
Our village is an amazing support system and encourages us to spend time with one another by offering to babysit and let us get much needed one on one time.
This is 'the year of yes'. This is our time to do new and exciting things that may even seem scary in the beginning. I encourage all married couples with children to spend intentional time with each other. Call up your village or a reliable babysitter and go have a few hours together. It's good for you! When you put the time and effort in to keeping your relationship alive and are genuinely happy, that extends to your child. Jaxson wakes up happy, he is always smiling and I would like to credit some of that to us as his parents doing our very best to maintain balance in our life. My advice is to never forget why you fell in love with your spouse. Never stop showing them how much you love them and appreciate all they do. Trust me, it'll go a long way!!
We are looking forward to more fun times in the future as a couple and as a family.
